Wé
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 June 2026
1. INTRODUCTION
Wé ("we," "our," or "us") is a business management platform designed for retailers in Africa. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect the following information to operate Wé and improve your experience:
- Registration Data: Full name, phone number, email address, and a PIN (stored as a one-way hash).
- Business Data: Store name, store category, city, inventory items, sales records, customer records, notes of amounts customers owe you, and expense entries that you choose to record.
- Product Images (Business plan only): Photos you upload for products. These are stored on Cloudinary.
- Subscription Billing: If you choose a paid subscription to unlock additional app features, the phone number you enter for billing is passed to our third-party billing provider to process the charge. Any billing PIN is entered on the provider's own screen and is never seen, transmitted, or stored by Wé. We retain only the transaction reference, amount, status, and plan.
- Device Data: Device model, operating system version, app version, and a Firebase Cloud Messaging token used to deliver push notifications.
- Diagnostics: Anonymised crash reports and performance metrics collected by Firebase Crashlytics. We do not link these to your name, email, or phone number.
- Activity Data: The dates on which you actively use Wé, used to power streak counts and engagement rewards. This stays inside Wé and is never sold or shared.
3. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT
Wé does not request or access your precise or coarse location, your contacts, your health or fitness data, your browsing history outside the app, or any advertising identifiers. We do not run advertisements and do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
4. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the collected data to:
- Create and maintain your account and stores.
- Bill you for any paid subscription you choose.
- Deliver push notifications for low stock, new sales, subscription confirmations, and account events.
- Sync your data across devices and back up your business records.
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues via crash and performance reporting.
- Improve the app through anonymised diagnostics and aggregate activity analysis.
- Respond to your support requests.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS
We rely on the following providers. Each is bound by its own privacy policy.
- PayUnit. Our third-party billing provider, used only to collect subscription fees. payunit.net/privacy
- Firebase Authentication & Cloud Messaging (Google). Account auth and push notification delivery. firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google). Anonymised crash and performance reports.
- Cloudinary. Product image hosting on the Business plan. cloudinary.com/privacy
- Railway (PostgreSQL). Encrypted hosting of your business records.
6. DATA STORAGE AND SECURITY
All data in transit is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS). Account credentials and business records are stored on managed servers operated by Firebase and Railway. Your PIN is never stored in plain text; only a one-way hash is kept on our servers. While we use commercially reasonable measures to protect your data, no system can be guaranteed 100 percent secure.
7. SHARING OF DATA
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the providers listed in Section 5, strictly for the purposes described, and we may disclose data if required by law or in response to a valid request from a public authority.
8. DATA RETENTION
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time in-app under Settings → Account → Delete Account, or by emailing us. On deletion, your profile, stores, sales, customers, products, and balance records are removed from our active servers within 30 days. Anonymised crash data held by Crashlytics may persist according to Google's retention policy.
9. YOUR DATA PROTECTION RIGHTS
Depending on your jurisdiction (including OHADA member states and Cameroon's data protection regime), you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent for optional features such as product image uploads.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address in Section 12.
10. CHILDREN
Wé is intended for adult business owners and authorised staff. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
11. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of Wé after a change constitutes acceptance.
